★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wat Thammaram is located in the west side area of Ayutthaya, north of “ Wat Kasattrathirat “,off the city island in the field called “ Thung Worachet “, exactly west bank of Chao aphra River. In A.D. 1569( B.E. 2112) first fell of Ayutthaya, Bhurang Noung ( King of Hongsawadi) set a stronghold of his army at this area that was in the reign of Somdej Phramahintrathirat. This temple was involved in the important mission of monks, during the reign of King Boromakot ( Ayutthaya), Sri Lanka was in the Kandy Nayak dynasty under the reign of King Sri Vijaya Raja Sinha( A.D.1739-1747), religion crisis in Sri Lanka since monks accumulating wealth, cultivating, trading that turned the monks hood to families business, caused of fading away of Buddhist monastic order, needed to restore. The second journey happened in the reign of young King Kittithad Sri Rays Singh ( A.D. 1747-11782), King Boromakot ( A.D. 1733-1758) inclined to the request of the young king of Sri Lanka, the result of missions, within 3 years Upali Maha Thero and his chapter ordained 700 priests, several youth had entered the temple as novice, after re -establishing the higher ordination ( Upasampadawa ), settings up Siam Nikaya Order and received the model of tooth relics as presents for King Boromakot , in the new chapter of Siamese monks set out for Sri Lanka in October A.D. 1755, brought numerous books and rich offerings for the sacred tooth.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the most serene temples in Ayutthaya. This temple is quite unknown to visitors. There is also a small museum explaining the temple history.
