★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Samut Songkhram Province, Wat Chonglom, Samut Songkhram, Thailand 2015 visit.
On my way back from Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, I called in on this temple again that I visited some years ago. Not much had changed here and not many people were visiting that return journey visit. But it’s on the way back so it is worth calling in to see this extensive temple stretching over a large area of grounds. On my first visit I did not manage to see inside the main temple, this time I did. It was very hot this day but usual for Thailand. Always remember to carry water with you. Many roadside stalls sell cooled water along with stalls at the many temples. This temple is not far from Samut Songkhram centre itself. So you will be able to see this interesting market called the train Market. Where shopkeepers have their stalls along the railway track.
Samut Songkhram is located on the sea shore of the Mae Klong Bay, 74 kilometres southwest of Bangkok. It occupies an area of 416.7 square kilometres and is administratively divided into three Amphoe's: Muang, Amphawa and Bang Khonthi. Samut Songkhram area is a low basin having a river and canals passing all through it. This with frequent rains make the most of the area suitable for cultivation of fruits such as grapes, guava and lychee. Coconut sugar production is seen periodically. In addition, along both sides of Thon Buri-Pak Tho Highway, there are several salt production fields and lobster farms. Commonly known as Mae Klong, this provincial capital lies along a sharp bend in Mae Nam Mae Klong and just a few kilometres from the Gulf of Thailand.
Samut Songkhram can be considered a modern city with a large market area between the train and bus stations. The sizeable Wat Phet Samut Worawihan, in the centre of town near the train station and river, contains a renowned Buddha image called Luang Phaw Wat Ban Laem.
