★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Family is a typical Thai style restaurant with simple furniture and style. I had a soup Tom Kha Gai which I thought was too sweet and not up to standard. My friend had Tom Yam Gung which he liked!!! I tried his soup and also would not give a good rating. The soup was each 150 B for the small size (which I wouldn't consider small!) without rice. I think this is not cheap considering the simple place.

So what?
Local to who? Local to those that live in Cha Am?
Considering it's located on Cha Am Beach, I'd hazard a guess that it's not local to most people coming here. Some reviewers are complete numptys. You can't expect this to be at the same level as a fine dining place. Get over yourselves.
Anyway, rant over.
The food here is great. We ordered oysters, clams, mussels, octopus and beef.
All of it was great tasting. The seafood sauce with the oysters was especially excellent and after living in Thailand for 8 years was a new recipe to me.
Service was also very good indeed with not a lot waiting for the dishes to arrive.
I was very happy to see a menu that had an English version and a Thai version, but with the same prices. Anyone that visits Thailand will probably see that this is actually uncommon. Thai menus tend to be cheaper.
Look, this isn't fine dining. It isn't 5 star luxury. It is what it is. Good, fresh food, cooked well and great tasting. No draw backs to this place.
The cost for our order was 1020 baht, which included 3 large beers.
I live in Bangkok and I'd easily pay the same price there, but the food would not be to this standard.
Give it a try if you're in the Cha Am Beach area.
