เริ่มต้นจากการชอบในไอศกรีมของกลาสีเรือ ชาวอเมริกันชื่อ Mr. Earle Swensen’s เมื่อเขาพบเครื่องทำไอศกรีมขนาดใหญ่ในเรือที่เขาประจำการในปี ค.ศ.1942 จึงใช้เวลาว่างคิดค้นไอศกรีมรสชาติต่างๆ แจกจ่ายเพื่อนฝูง จนกระทั่งปลดประจำการ จากนั้นเข้าจึงได้เปิดร้าน “Swensen’s Ice Cream” ณ มุมถนนยูเนียนและไฮด์ ในเมืองซานฟรานซิสโก มลรัฐแคลิฟอร์เนีย ในปี ค.ศ.1948
Swensen’s ตั้งชื่อไอศกรีมซันเดย์จากแรงบันดาลใจของจุดเด่นสำคัญๆ ในเมืองซานฟรานซิสโก เช่น Coit tower , Ther Fire House และทีสำคัญ Earth Quakeซึ่งอีก 60 ปีให้หลังเมนู Earth Quake ได้กลายเป็นเมนูไอศกรีม ที่โด่งดังและเป็นที่เรียกติดปากกันมายาวนาน
จวบจนปัจจุบันนี้ Swensen’s ได้ขยายสาขาไปทั่วทุกมุมโลกเฉพาะในเมืองไทยมีสาขามากกว่า 280 สาขา ทั่วประเทศและยังยืนยันที่จะสร้างสรรค์เมนูไอศกรีมใหม่ๆ อย่างต่อเนื่อง เพื่อสานฝัน Earle Swensen ต่อไปอย่างไม่หยุดยั้ง
