★ ★ ★ ★ ★ สำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษา เขต 38 เดิมตั้ง อยู่ที่ ต.บ้านกล้วย อ.เมือง จ.สุโขทัย ปัจจุบันได้ย้ายสำนักงานมาอยู่ที่ อาคารสำนักงานการประถมศึกษาจังหวัดสุโขทัย (เดิม) ถนนสิงหวัฒน์ ต.ธานี อ.เมือง จ.สุโขทัย ซึ่งจัดตั้งตามที่ได้มีการแก้ไขเพิ่มเติมกฎหมาย 3 ฉบับ ได้แก่ พ.ร.บ. การศีกษาแห่งชาติ (ฉบับที่ 3) พ.ศ.2553 พ.ร.บ.ระเบียบบริหารราชการกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ (ฉบับที่ 2) พ.ศ. 2553 และ พ.ร.บ. ระเบียบข้าราชการครูและบุคลากรทางการศึกษา (ฉบับที่ 3) พ.ศ. 2553 และต่อมากระทรวงศึกษาธิการได้มีประกาศเรื่องการกำหนด เขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษา จำนวน 42 เขต เมื่อวันที่ 17 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2553 ทั้งนี้ ให้มีผลตั้งแต่วันประกาศใน ราชกิจจานุเบกษา ( 18 สิงหาคม 2553) เป็นต้นไป ซึ่ง สำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษาเขต 38 ประกอบด้วย ท้องที่จังหวัดสุโขทัย และ ท้องที่จังหวัดตาก โดยให้สำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษา เขต 38 ตั้งอยู่ที่อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดสุโขทัย และให้สถานศึกษาที่จัดการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานเฉพาะแต่ระดับมัธยมศึกษา ที่ตั้งอยู่ในเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษา เขต 38 มีจำนวน ในจังหวัดสุโขทัย จำนวน 27 โรงเรียน โรงเรียนในจังหวัดตาก จำนวน 20 โรงเรียน รวมทั้งสิ้น 47 โรงเรียน
