★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An OK view as the reality is there is not a lot of elevation. It does feel fresh though.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chaiyaphum Province.
My first trip to this Province was in February and March 2011. I stayed in a place called Phakdi Chumphon, a small village in the west of the Province. There is not much of a night life around here , but the scenery and the Temples are beautiful and unique. Phakdi Chumphon has it’s local market that I visited most days. There is also the usual household goods and food shops scattered around the village. Chaiyaphum Province is one of the North Eastern Provinces and usually the area is called Issan. It is about 6 hours by bus from Bangkok to the village of Phakdi Chumphon a little longer to Chaiyaphum town. You can catch an air conditioned bus from the new Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal which is also called Chatuchak Bus Terminal.
Each ticket booth stands for one company, not one destination. So check them all out first. Different companies don’t use the same style buses. Some are air conditioned, some not. Some are fairly modern, many are not so do make sure, it’s a long journey, you want the most comfortable. Halfway through the journey they make a stop so that passengers can use the toilets, buy food or drinks, or just stretch their legs. There is nothing on the journey that passes for beautiful scenery and wonderful sights. The first part of it is along many highways before you then start to hit the countryside.
Chaiyaphum Province is bordered by Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Lopburi and Phetchabun provinces. The province is divided by the Phetchabun mountains, which have a highest peak of 1222 metres. Then to the east of the province is the Korat Plateau. A total of four national parks are located within the province. Tat Ton National Park, which is in the northwest of the province. The main features of this park are the many scenic waterfalls ( although it does need rain to make these a full feature. I visited this park during my first visit and because not much rain had fallen over the past month the rivers and waterfalls were very slow running ).
Then we come to Sai Thong National Park in the west of the province, the features of this Park are the Sai Thong waterfall and fields of Siam Tulips. Fields full of Siam Tulips and other wild flowers can be found in Pa Hin Ngam National Park in the southwest of the province. You will also find here strange rock formations that have been eroded over many thousands of years strange pathways lead around this park, but it’s still not easy to walk round here. Finally Phu Laen Kha National Park that lies in the northwest of the province. This park is noted for its dense forests, breathtaking waterfalls and rocky mountain cliffs. I did visit Tat Ton National Park and Pa Hin Ngam National Park while I was there, you will find the write ups for them further on in the book.
