Amazing place, amazing food, amazing people. Experience I will never forget. Stayed 2 weeks in 2013, with two elephants. They are exceptionally well cared for and you will greatly learn what needs to be done to make sure Thailand's domestic elephants are cared for and the conservation efforts needed to keep the species alive. Learn first hand, not from me, not from anyone judging from afar. Do yourself a favor and stay at least 1 week.

Perfect stay for an animal welfare advocate My title is purposeful; as you either believe animals and humans can cohabitate or you don’t. I pose this as one of the many things I’ve learned during my six days is that there is a huge difference in animal rights and animal welfare. As anyone who’s ever ridden a horse, or has a pet dog/cat at home knows, the animal and you are one. And just as there may be a minority who mistreat their animals, the same is true in the elephant kingdom. But this is NO such place. Leaving behind that Elephant stay is located on a UNESCO heritage site, complete with the multiple thousand of years where the Thai culture and elephants have lived together, Elephantstay brings this together for a visitor keen to not only connect with a magnificent and regal animal, but to understand the strong bond between the ancient Thai culture and their elephants. As for the time here, be assured that should you wish to immerse yourself, you WILL be working as the attention, feed, and connection elephants need exceed the tome most visitors leave for their flights home. Aside from the fact that they have near 60 elephants to house, your elephant will need around 150 kgs per day of food, and 100 litres of water. They need to be scrubbed and washed, and for the older ones (which they have a few), they need their vet directed medicine. And considering elephants can live to 80 years, this is a lifelong commitment. The bungalows are simple, but very comfortable and air conditioned (as most of us are not use the the humidity of Thailand). The meals are excellent, giving you access to the delicious Thai cuisine. Cooked fresh and locally. The staff are very friendly and extremely well trained to look after the elephants. In the near 18 years (Oct 2018), 71 elephant calf shave been born there. I was lucky enough to be there for the birth of one. I was there for six days and can honestly say I found my time there educationally rewarding, let alone spiritually so. I was fortunate enough to have made connection with my assigned elephant. And as an animal lover of all animals, my respect for the elephants rose by multiples, let alone the staff who care and look after these fine animals. Lastly, if you’re like me, you’ll prob read the negative reviews to find out the worse. Should you do so, please remember my aforementioned question about your beliefs. But even outside of Elephantstay, look how many other reviews they’ve posted as not all reviewers are equal. You can give anyone a microphone, but doesn’t mean everyone with a microphone can sing.

Animal abuse. Elephants should never be ridden on. They endorse chaining and spread false information that elephants are domesticated whilst comparing elephants to horses. false equivalency.

I used to come here often when I lived in Ayutthaya. Now after so many years I had chance to go back. I looooved it!! It is amazing that you can walk around watching their everyday life for free!! We paid only for taking pictures and feeding these beautiful animals, but it was only 100฿!! Some people here are complaining about the workers and how the animals are treated, but I did not see any mistreating. The workers were polite, friendly and treated the elephants well. I absolutely loved the baby elephants. Ah my heart ??

Dont come here. Cruelty exposed..THINK about the animals pain instead of your pictures. Freak show.

The elephants are beaten, chained all day to do tricks and give rides. Elephants are on extinct list. Even they were not on the list. They do not deserve this. They do not do all this. They are wild. Imagine 80-90 years of brutal captivity. Elephants are hit with sharps in head and they bled while giving rides. This is what humanity stands for, and give 5star reviews to. Think Again ??? Where is your conscience?????

A really wonderful place and the closest you'll ever get to Elephants and understanding their role within Thai culture. Truly memorable and an easy day trip from Bangkok.

Don't visit this place of cruel elephants and exhibits of poor elephants moment by moment until they die for money. This is not a free space for elephants, everything is a lie. Shows only for people and tourists. They say they have free elephants with less contact with humans, but that is not true. Don't go there, please, don't contribute to these filthy and inhuman business where elephants are tormented. Tourists are the main culprits for the suffering of poor tormented elephants, because they give money to have fun like that.
