The buzz: Novotel Sukhumvit 20 has welcomed a new fancy barbecue joint that sure knows there’s more to it than just marinating meats and throwing them on a hot grill. The latest venture from the forces behind Banjoo, Charm offers classic Korean barbecue—no frills, no bragging—with high quality meats in a stylish hotel setting. The decor: The clean, crisp space is set apart from your average Korean joint by its contemporary-rustic style: dark floors, concrete walls, warm light fixtures and a scattering of compact tables, each with a grill, encouraging you to nuzzle up close to your companions over the sizzling food. The bar takes over a small, intimate space to one side of the room, featuring slick black metallic framework and white brick walls. The food: An uncomplicated approach to Korean barbecue lets the high-quality meats shine through—beautiful marbled wagyu striploin from Japan and thick wagyu tenderloin from Australia (B1,450/180g) both come out succulent and juicy after a short stint on the grill. These wouldn’t be complete without the restaurant’s special housemade miso sauce and smoky Korean salt. Don’t forget to order a big slab of Korean pancake and a hot plate of japchae (Korean stir-fried noodles)—both make excellent sides. The drinks: At the bar, there’s a special selection of imported Korean premium soju, offering a surprisingly smooth, mellow taste—not at all sharp. Prices start at B1,100, or B190 per shot. Beers like Korea's fave Hite (B160) are available by the bottle, as well as wine by the glass.

Went there at 1pm on Sunday. EMPTY, not one customer and the staff were still mopping the floor. Empty tea cups on the table , but no one served any water or tea. Beef tartare was terrible , not fresh enough, filled with tendon hard to chew. Bibimbap served, just left on table without spoon, with tiny plate of sauce leaving at far end of table where no one noticed. This is definitely the worst Korean dining experience i’ve ever had. Kitchen was noisy with kids screaming and ppl talking loud on phone. Taste was ok , at least serving hot. Disappointed and don’t think it is ready to be opened yet .

Very good Korean restaurant. I would say it is one of the top in Bangkok. The only thing that keeps me from going to this restaurant more often is its price. For what it is, the price is a bit too high. But if you are looking for a quality Korean restaurant with good food and cleanliness, this would be a good choice. This restaurant is also owned by the owner of Banjoo, which is very similar. Banjoo is a bit more casual than Charm, though I wouldn't say that Charm is much of a formal restaurant. Nonetheless, if you like Korean barbecue, this is a must try restaurant!

My family and I just had a wonderful meal at a Korean Steak House in Bangkok. We had no idea that so many positive experiences awaited us this evening. The restaurant is on the ground floor of Novotel on Sukhumvit Soi 20 in Bangkok. We asked for one of the private rooms we noticed there, because we wanted to share an intimate meal together. The private room was large and well appointed. I am large, so I apperceived the westerner friendly furnishings. Since it is a steak house, my wife and son ordered steak. I found the salad and Bibimbap served is a hot stone bowl to be excellent. When you "nail" the basic dishes perfectly; this is what impresses me. Every subtle nuance was noticed and appreciated. We also shared a Korean pancake (it was not at all oily) plus a fish stew. I am not the most experienced connoisseur of Korean dining, but I know what excellence is. You could tell that a lot of experience and care went into this stew. So very special, so very good! Friendly, timely, service with a smile was a very pleasant punctuation on the evening for sure. The staff and management were well-trained and helpful indeed. When my wife ordered a cocktail, I was thinking to myself that this would end the trend of positive experiences we had enjoyed this evening. I was wrong. What a surprise! The drink was yet another star, it looked great and tasted even better. I would like to review the Hong Kong waffle my son had for dessert, but he refused to share a single bite. We found this interesting since he rarely likes fresh fruit and this impressive looking desert was filled with fresh fruit. The next time I visit Bangkok, I will visit Charm Korean Steak House again.
