แผนกการฝึกกำลังสำรอง จังหวัดทหารบกขอนแก่น จัดตั้งเมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๐ ตามคำสั่ง ทบ.(เฉพาะ) ที่ ๑/๒๐ ลง ๕ ม.ค.๒๐ แผนกการฝึกกำลังสำรอง จังหวัดทหารบก ขอนแก่น ได้แปรสภาพมาเป็น ศูนย์การฝึกนักศึกษาวิชาทหาร มณฑลทหารบกที่ ๒๓ ตามคำสั่ง ทบ.(เฉพาะ) ที่ ๖๙/๓๓ ลง ๙ พ.ค.๓๓ ใช้หมายเลข อจย. ๕๑–๒๐๒(๕ ธ.ค. ๓๑)

ภารกิจ :
อำนวยการ ประสานงาน และดำเนินการฝึกนักศึกษาวิชาทหาร ในเขตพื้นที่จังหวัดขอนแก่น และจังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์ กำกับดูแล และให้การสนับสนุน การฝึกศึกษานักศึกษาวิชาทหาร ตลอดจนดำเนินการฝึกหลักสูตรอื่นๆ ตามที่ได้รับมอบ
ขีดความสามารถ
1. อำนวยการ ประสานงาน และดำเนินการฝึกนักศึกษาวิชาทหารได้ถึงชั้นปีที่ 5
2. ให้การศึกษานักศึกษาวิชาทหาร ได้ ในวิชาการทั่วไป วิชาทหารราบ วิชาทหารม้า วิชาทหารปืนใหญ่ วิชาทหารช่าง วิชาทหารสื่อสาร วิชาอาวุธ และวิชาการสงครามพิเศษ
3. ดำเนินการฝึก และปกครองบังคับบัญชานักศึกษาวิชาทหารได้ 9,000 คน
4. กำกับดูแล และให้การสนับสนุนการฝึกนักศึกษาวิชาทหารของจังหวัดทหารบกที่เป็นหน่วยขึ้นตรงได้ตามความจำเป็น
5. ดำเนินการฝึกศึกษาหลักสูตรอื่น ๆ ตามที่ได้รับมอบหมาย
6. มีการสนับสนุนทางการช่วยรบอย่างจำกัด

Reserve Training Department Khon Kaen Army Provinces was established in 1977 by the Royal Thai Army Command (Special) No. 1/20 to January 5, 20, the Reserve Training Division. Capacity
1. Directing, coordinating and conducting training of military students up to the fifth year.
2. To educate students in military subjects in general subjects, infantry, cavalry, artillery, mechanic, communication, weapons and special warfare.
3. Conduct training and supervise over 9,000 military students.
4. Supervise and support the training of military students of the province of the Army that is the unit as necessary
5. Conduct other training courses as assigned.
6. There is limited support for combat assistance.
